BOARD INTRODUCTION AND ELECTIONS

Meeting called to order at 8:42am.

  1. Welcome and Introduction of New Members
    1. Craig Stocking was not in attendance to introduce himself. This would carry over to a future meeting.
  2. Resignation and Election of President, Vice-President and Treasurer for 2016-2017
    1. Eric Woodward resigned as President, Gareth Abreo resigned as Treasurer. Cathy Doyle was assumed to have resigned as Vice-President, and would be customary.
    2. Eric Woodward confirmed his interest in continuing on as President for at least one more year. John Tomlinson nominated him, Gareth Abreo seconded. Without opposition, Eric Woodward was acclaimed as President for 2017-2018.
    3. Gareth Abreo offered to continue as Treasurer. He was nominated by Eric Woodward, seconded by Franco Papalia. Without opposition, Gareth Abreo was acclaimed as Treasurer for 2017-2018.
    4. John Tomlinson offered to serve as Vice President. Franco Papalia nominated him, Gareth Abreo seconded. Without opposition, John Tomlinson was acclaimed as Vice President for 2017-2018.

REPORTS
  1. President's Report
    1. Eric Woodward reported that the Annual General Meeting for 2017 was successfully completed. He thanked the Board for attending, and commented he hoped for a successful upcoming year, and Fort Langley BIA bylaw renewal.
  2. Treasurer's Report
    1. Gareth Abreo reported that the BIA's current cash balance is $61,879, with accrued expenses of approximately $5,000.

  1. Constitution & Bylaws. Christine Burdeniuk.
    1. Christine Burdeniuk handed out a transition brochure, and discussed some additional details. Eric Woodward confirmed he would put her in touch directly with the lawyer to refine a final version for consideration.

OTHER BUSINESS
  1. Paul Verhoeff Resignation & Board Vacancy. All.
    1. Eric Woodward confirmed that Paul Verhoeff had resigned. The Board accepted his resignation. The Board discussed the possibility, in principal, of appointing someone to fill the vacant seat, as it is has done in the past. The Board decided to wait and if any comes forward to express interest.
  2. Utilities Conversion Update. All.
    1. The Board modified and agreed to send a letter to Mayor Froese regarding details of a specific item within the utilities conversion that requires resolution.
  3. Bloom Market Baby Progress Report. Meghan Neufeld.
    1. Meghan Neufeld confirmed the Board that Bloom Baby was set to run March 31 to April 1, including the Friday evening, with vendors booked and the significant preparations complete.
  4. Fort Langley BIA Contributions to May Day Parade and Remembrance Day. Eric Woodward.
    1. Eric Woodward suggested that the Board confirm the funding for these two events in 2017 earlier than usual, and just sent them the funds now so they know how much they have from the Fort Langley BIA, and do not have to ask. Eric also suggested the Board consider an increase for each, given rising costs, and that it has been a long time since the amounts were determined, especially for May Day Parade.

      That the Board hereby confirm increased contributions of $1,000 for the May Day Parade and $1,000 for Remembrance Day.

ROUND TABLE
  1. The Board discussed the possibility of sponsoring the Beer + Food Festival scheduled for May 20, 2017, at the Fort Langley National Historic Site. The Board agreed to offer to help promote the event via its Fort Langley Facebook page.
  2. The Board discussed the need to confirm the Christmas budget and scope of work earlier this year. It was agreed to place it on the agenda for the March Baord meeting.
